Originally from Melbourne, Helen Thorn began performing comedy in 2003. The following year she reached the national final of RAW Comedy, Australia’s most prestigious open mic competition. She also made it to the final of 2Day FM’s Australian Comedy God competition, and was selected to perform in The Comedy Zone, a showcase for the country’s best new talent.
Helen performed at the Melbourne Comedy Festival in 2005 and returned the following year with a one-woman show, Arty Farty. She was a regular panelist on Vulture, ABC’s popular arts and culture show.
Helen also has a background in the arts, having organised and hosted events for the National Gallery of Victoria, the Venice Biennale, the Courtauld Institute, and the Arts Council. She has extensive presenting, writing, and broadcasting experience in the field.
Helen took a break to have children when she moved to the UK, returning to comedy in 2013. She performs solo spots regularly and will be taking her new show ‘Thorny Questions’, to the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2017.
Helen is also one-half of the comedy double act Scummy Mummies. Together with fellow mum Helen Thorn, she co-hosts the UK’s number one parenting podcast, and performs live shows around the country. The Scummy Mummies Book is due for publication in March 2017.
